Hi lovelies,
It’s downhill to the weekend now. I love Wednesdays. Also, good luck to all the kids going back to school today (and the parents and teachers too).
I recently picked up my first Essie polishes. I have never been a huge fan of the brand but not from personal experience. I have heard many people struggle with it and that it doesn’t last long on the nails. I’ve also heard that many of the colours need like a zillion coats to get good colour payoff or opaque. Considering the price of them, I wasn’t going to rush out to buy any. I can guarantee you that just because you paid so much for a polish, it isn’t necessarily the best or longest lasting polish. Like I said though, I had no personal experience with Essie. Recently when Essie was 3 for 2 at Clicks I took the chance to try a few. I knew if I was going to try them that one of them had to be Butler please. Another one I picked up was Ladylike, which is a beautiful nude creme. I then immediately had to use these 2 together. Let me show you what I did.
I started with 2 coats of Essie – Ladylike. Once that was completely dry I used Essie – Butler please and a big dotting tool to make random big dots near the tips. I then used a smaller dotting tool with Butler please and filled in the spaces around the big dots, concentrating only on the top half of my nail. Topcoated and done.
I actually really liked how it looked even if it was something really simple. I think these colours looks so good together. Let me show you the swatches.
Essie – Ladylike
This is 2 coats with no topcoat. It’s a nude creme. It was a nice formula and quite opaque. I didn’t have any streakiness. And I really like the colour.
Essie – Butler please
This is 2 coats with no topcoat. It’s a beautiful bright blue creme. Really nice formula and fabulous opacity. I knew I would love the colour – and I really do – but I was impressed with the application of this one.
My impressions so far of Essie? I didn’t wear it long enough to make any judgement about wear but these two are really nice opacity wise. Formula was also good, better on Butler please but still good. I didn’t care much for the brush. It isn’t bad but other brands have nicer brushes. I have no doubt that it is something you can get used to though.
What do you think? Are you an Essie fan? Do you have these colours? What is your favourite Essie polish? I’d like to hear your opinion before I buy more.
Thanks for reading,
Squeaky Q
This is such a cute look! I always love simple but striking manicures 🙂 I also love the colour on Butler please, it’s such an electric shade of blue!

Thanks so much. Butler please is SO gorgeous! Although I hate the photos.

These are lovely!
I was never an Essie fan since I received a hand-me-down Essie I didn’t like about 10+ years ago. When I saw swatches of In the Cab-ana though I loved it so much that I got it and it’s one of my favourite polishes. I forked out for For the Twill of it too 🙂

Thanks Kerry. Do you love the polish as a brand or just the colours? I do think they have some nice and unique colours but I still can’t decide if as a brand they are tops?
Annette
I love your mani, its really cute, love the dotticure its simple but sweet. I have maybe a dozen essies and my experience with them has been mostly good. My main issue is you just don’t know what its gonna be like so like you I tend to buy them on special as they’re a lot of money here in Australia. Perhaps google individual colors before you buy them.

Thank you so much Anette. And thanks for there feedback. They are also quite pricey here, one of the most expensive brands (beaten by OPI and Zoya) but I completely agree. I think my main issue is the inconsistency with the brand. I like knowing a polish is going to have a good formula even if the colour isn’t always or if it is sheer. Definitely will have to google before I buy.

Lovely manicure!! This would probably look good in matte as well 🙂
Essie and me don’t go along very well. Other polishes (Zoya, OPI) can stay on my nails for at least 3-4 days without chips but Essie chips within a day…
That said, some colors I really like so I buy them anyway, knowing I will have to paint my nails the next day or at least retouch them.

Thanks so much Joyce, I didn’t even think of matte but I agree with you.
Essie does have some really nice colours but I don’t love the inconsistency. I also think Essie has more issues with body chemistry than any other.

I’ve had pretty good luck with Essie. I like their brushes because I like small brushes. I think their collections are sometimes not the most exciting color-wise. I’ve also heard their formulas can be inconsistent, but I don’t think I’ve come across a bad one myself. My all-time favorite is a magenta called Big Spender and I also love Naughty Nautical (teal). I like Orange, It’s Obvious (orange, duh, haha) and Jamaican Me Crazy (raspberry), too. Some other “famous” good ones are Mojito Madness (green), Mesmerize (blue), and Bikini So Teeny (baby blue).

Thanks for the suggestions Lesley. I agree their collections aren’t always that amazing but every now and then they do have a really nice colour. I am not sure about the inconsistency though :/

Nope. Nope. All the way to Nope Town. I don’t like Essie. It doesn’t last even a few hours on me. Not worth the money. Cute mani though!
