I have been very sceptical about trying water marbling because it looked near impossible. I always see such beautiful water marble nails out there and the first thought that pops into my head is “ohhh I wish I could do that but it is way too difficult”. I finally decided to give it a try. The worst that could happen is I would mess it up completely. Well, it wasn’t perfect but I think it turned out ok.
I chose the colours because I was working on a specific topic for a challenge. I have since decided not to do the challenge. The two colours I used were Tip Top Frenzee:
Frenzee is an almost gold toned nude. Very pretty.
and Tip Top Super Trooper:
Super Trooper is a army, camo coloured green/grey. I love this colour.
Both of these I have had for a while but this is the first time I am using them. I decided to use a base colour of white because I didn’t know how the water marble would come out. I wasn’t sure which colour would be more dominant and didn’t want the base colour to affect how it would come out. I used one coat of Sinful Colours Snow Me White over my normal base coat.
I then had a little bowl of water that I made sure was room temperature and started dropping in the polish. I did tape my nails before hand to minimise the clean up. Once I had dropped a few drops of each colour I used a toothpick to try and draw a shape into the polish. At this point I realised I had no idea what I was doing. 😛
After dipping each nail into the ‘design’ (i use this term very loosely) I waited a few seconds for the polish in the surface to dry a little and then used the toothpick to pick up all the surrounding polish while my finger was still in the water. The voila! I was done. I then moved into the next finger. I left all the tape on until I was completely done so there would be no risk of messing it up while taking it off. This is the final result.
My indec finger and ring finger didn’t come out too great. I wanted to see if adding a bit of sparkle would help so I added Sinful Colors – Opal Glitter to my ring finger. It didn’t really make much of a difference except hide it a little.
A big mistake I made was not doing a proper clean up after applying the white base. This meant when I did the clean up at the end you can see small bits of the white polish peeking through. I know this will happen so I have no idea why I didn’t do it to begin with. I think the middle and baby fingers came out pretty decent though. I started with my index finger and you can see at that point I had no idea what I was doing yet 😛
I am definitely going to try this again but with brighter or different colours. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as I had told myself it would be and with taping my nails the clean up was minimal.
What do you think? Have you tried water marble?
Thanks for reading!

Love this 🙂
I tried it once and it didn’t go too well! Your efforts are far better than mine.

Thank you so much!!! I was very prepared for it to go very wrong but I am so happy it didn’t go too badly. It definitely encouraged me to try it again. Perhaps you will too 😉

Hahaha I have ZERO patience. You should absolutely try it though. I thought it went really fast and dry time was a breeze too. Why not just start with an accent nail? I am definitely doing more of this soon!

I liked this from when you showed me so ja. That’s all

Thank you lovely! 🙂

Your pinky and middle finger look great! I don’t have the courage to try this. The time and cleanup put me off.

Thank you so much!!
Can I tell you a secret? This actually didn’t take a lot of time at all. In fact I think taping my nails took the longest (and even that wasn’t long)and that also means minimal cleanup. I think you will love this if you gave it a try. Maybe one day when you have more time on your hands!
