52 week nail art challenge – Week 7: Valentines day

Hello lovelies,

Did you have a good weekend?  It has been super hot and I feel exhausted today but at least it’s cooler.  I’m excited to start this week though.

Valentines day is coming up and it makes the perfect prompt for the #52weeknailchallenge from Polish Portfolio. It is similar to the 31 Day challenge except  this is one prompt for every week of the year. You can share yours on any day of the week as long as it falls within the week.  Here is the list of prompts and you can use #52weeknailchallenge to keep track of any posts. I hope you’ll join in.

Valentines day nail art is so much fun because there are so many options.  In some ways it makes it a little harder because because I am not so good at making decisions.  When I saw this Instagram post by @clairestelle8 I thought she was a genius and it immediately gave me the idea for todays post.  So let me show you.

I started with 1 coat of Essence – Wild white ways on all my nails and let that dry completely.  I then did a sponged gradient using Essence – Free hugs, Essence – #Lucky and Essence – Life is pink!.  The one thing I did differently to the tutorial is I did the vinyls directly on my nails instead of on my mat.  I wish I didn’t but anyway.  Once the gradient was dry I applied the Heartfull nail vinyls from Because I shop on my index, middle and pinky. I then applied a coat of black polish and almost immediately a coat of Color Club – Harp on it.  Making sure to remove the vinyls as soon as possible.  On my ring finger I applied a heart vinyl from Because I shop and doing the same thing with black and Color Club – Harp on it.  I topcoated and that was that.

I really missed doing gradients.  It’s been a while.  I also really love the effect of the holo on black with the vinyls.  i wish I had done it on the mat but I was measuring the vinyl for size on my nails and I figured I may as well just go with it.  I would definitely be doing it on the mat next time. There were some flaws but all in all I kinda like it. I also wish the holo was more visible in my lightbox but you can see a hint of it on my pinky.  What do you think?
