Hey hi hello,
I hope you have had a great week and like me, super ready for a weekend. I have a lot to do at home this weekend but I hope I can tick them off quick sticks and get on with relaxing. How about you?
Today I have another review from one of my favourite nail art stores. Today I have something a little different from Born Pretty Store to show you because it is a nail polish. Not just any polish either, today I am showing you a peel off nail polish from the ‘red series’ called Firebird Dance. Let me show you,
Born Pretty Store – Firebird Dance
There is a lot to say about this polish but let me start with how it arrived. My bottle came with a very stiff brush. It looked like it had gotten hard or was hard before it went into the polish. I ended up taking it out and removing as much polish as I could before cleaning the brush with acetone and alcohol. It made a huge difference and eventually loosened the bristles and it was usable again. I do think it was a bad bottle and not the standard brush (none of my other brushes or polishes were like this)
My polish was also a little on the thick side. I don’t know if this is standard for the type of polish or part of the issue that caused the brush problem. It wasn’t difficult to work with though. It probably just made for a slightly thicker coat.
On to the polish. The instructions say to use base and topcoat so I just used my regular base coat. This is 2 coats with topcoat as well. I wasn’t sure if using my own would affect the peeling. This polish is VERY opaque and I would probably have been fine with 1 coat. I always use 2 though so that is what I did here as well (not to mention, the instruction say so too). It dried like regular polish which surprised me. I wasn’t sure if the formula would be slow drying but it was no different than regular polish. I added topcoat and let it dry completely.
I had 2 things I wanted to test with this polish. One, if it would peel as easily as they say. Especially using my own base and topcoat. Two, if it would last more than a few hours or if it would peel off too easily. Once it was dry I was very tempted to try peeling it immediately but I wanted to test it for a bit. I wore this for 2 and a half days and it did not peel off by itself. It lasted quite well actually which surprised me even more. Eventually I couldn’t wait anymore and I had to test the peeling.
This is how I managed to start the peeling. I took an orange stick and ran it along the edge. Once it started lifting it went really easily from there. So even though I used my own (non Born Pretty Store) base and top coat it made no difference to this being a peeling polish.
This is Born Pretty Store – Firebird Dance. I used 2 coats with topcoat. This is a bright red with shimmer. My bottle had a thickish formula (I am not sure if it is standard) but was easy enough to work with regardless. It is very opaque and the shimmer shows well. There are 6 shades to choose from in the red series. I had good peeling results with using my own base and topcoat.
Have you tried any of the peeling polishes? Is it something you would be interested in? I am not sure if I have a need for polishes that peel but a peeling base coat would definitely be great. For me, the peeling didn’t affect the wearability of this polish so I don’t see any harm in saving myself some acetone or polish remover. Especially when it is a pretty colour too.
