I had to take our puppy Zack to the vet today. He wasn’t well and today was just an all time low for him. He had no strength and by mid day he didn’t even want to eat anymore.
I took him to the vet and the first thing he said was that Zack had almost no blood in his little body. He would need a blood transfusion and a drip and even then things weren’t looking good. He couldn’t work out where he was losing the blood.
The vet seemed to think that Zack had some kind of defect as he just wasn’t growing. His teeth and so on indicated that he was much older than his body looked. We made the decision to have Zack put down. For many reasons one being that he was going to suffer and there was no guarantee that he was going to make it or even that there was a good chance. He just didn’t have enough blood. And two, we lost a few dogs last year and one of them – Paige – was in hospital for about 5 days and when she came out she was thin, weak and lifeless. She had to be fed with a syringe and could barely walk a few steps. We were with her continuously and a few days later she died. It was heartbreaking watching her die and suffer like that. We had so much hope that she was going to make it and to suddenly have her die like that was awful. I couldn’t go through that again.
So, to Zack. One special puppy that crept into our hearts almost immediately. You are missed and will always be remembered.
