Yeah this was not an easy colour scheme to title so excuse that please 😉
This is a bit of a boring category because brown and grey polish doesn’t sound very pretty does it? I must admit I have fallen in love with a few of these. They work especially well for nail art and are perfect shades for the autumn and winter months ahead if you are that way inclined. I actually struggled to seperate some of these into ‘Brown’ or “Grey’ so I am lumping them all into one post. I will tell you what I think they are though but I would love to hear your opinions if you disagree. 😉
I asked the other day if I should make my photo’s bigger. It has come up a few times and it would seem that bigger photo’s are needed. You will see the photo’s in this post are bigger so let me know if they don’t wok out ok? I should have my light box soon so there will be a huge improvement in my photo’s as well. Let’s get to it.
Essence – I’m the Boss.
I’m the Boss is a dark grey polish filled with small silver glitter. I love the colour of this polish. It’s a perfect base colour and on it’s own it’s gorgeous. The glitter is a beautiful twist as they sparkle the minute the light hits it. This is two coats with no top coat. Application was perfect and you might even get away with one coat if you were careful. This was also really easy to remove.
Essence – Stuck on You
Even though this seems to have a blue hue to it, it is almost a charcoal grey colour. Packed with glass flecks. This is really gorgeous. I am imagining tons of galaxy like nail art with this. Beautiful application. This is two coats but once again, you could get away with one. I really love this colour and it’s so versatile. Removal was also a dream.
Tip Top – Triple Putty
This is one I struggled with. According to their website this is a grey polish but to me Triple Putty has a brown tone to it. In the bottle it totally can pass as grey but once on my nails it leans more towards a brown-grey. Anyway, regardless of where it fits. I love this polish. It’s a perfect creme polish that applies perfectly. This is two coats with no top coat. I also used this polish when I did the “Dotty Recreation” and it might actually look more grey there.
Essence – What’s my Name
I know I am not the only one to see the similarity between ‘What’s my Name’ and ‘Triple Putty’. On the Essence side this one is more brown in the bottle but I can’t lie. They look VERY similar. What’s My name also had perfect application. This is also two coats with no top coat. Perfect.
Essence – Boho Chic
I struggled a bit to get BoHo Chic to look accurate on these photo’s. It’s almost like an apricot tinted brown shade to me. Actually, if you took an apricot pip I bet it would look close to this colour. This was also packed with glitter and I can’t yet decide if it is copper or gold glitter. As you can see it was a bit sheer. This is two coats with no top coat but I am sure another coat would’ve sorted it right out. This was a very unique colour for me. I don’t think I have anything else like it. I kinda love it just because of that.
Gorgeous Bling Bling
Gorgeous Bling Bling is like Boho Chic’s darker, blingier sister. Also completely unique and different. This one is not as sheer as Boho Chic. This is two coats and it is complete opaque. Looking at these photos now I am not sure if they should’ve been included in the browns but in the bottle it certainly looked like a shade of brown to me. What do you think?
Wanna Say Hello
Wanna Say Hello is a dark, rich chocolate shade of brown. There is no denying what colour this is. It looks so luxurious and elegant. I absolutely love this shade and my only complaint is that it is often misunderstood for black because it is on the darker side. This is two coats and application was perfection. Isn’t that gorgeous?
I must mention that there were many shades of ‘brown’ and ‘grey’ in my post about ‘Neutral Shades’ so go have look at that post if you want to see more.
Essence is available at Clicks or Dischem for R19.95 and Tip Top is available at selected Clicks and Foschini stores for R39.99.
Unfortunately there won’t be a colour of the week post next week as we have visitors and I won’t be able to get through all the colours before then. The good (or is that bad) news is that there are only two colours left. My two favourite colours too. I can’t wait to show you all the beautiful blue and pink polishes! Next week there will be another post but the week after I will resume these colour posts.
Do any of these shades stand out for you? Thank you for the feedback about my photos. I hope these are much better and if you think they looked better the old way please let me know. Also, very soon the photos will be much better in general. Thanks for sticking with me though all these awkward photos and bad lighting pics. 😉
Thanks for reading!
