I promised you blue polish and blue polish is exactly what you will get. This is going to be a very photo heavy post so grab yourself something to drink, pull up a chair and enjoy! I will try to keep the ‘talking’ to a minimum.
Essence – Absolutely Blue
I don’t think I have to say much about this polish. It is absolutely gorgeous! ‘Absolutely Blue‘ is a perfect creme that applies like a dream. This is 2 coats over a base coat with no top coat. This is the perfect light / pastel blue. Definitely one of my favourites! I had no issues with this polish at all. No streaks either.
Essence – I’m Bluetiful
This is a gorgeous dusty blue polish with silver glitter. Very pretty and sparkly. This is 2 coats with no top coat. I almost want to say it is a grey tones blue but I am not sure if that is because of the glitter. It’s very pretty!!
Essence – Let’s get Lost
Let’s Get Lost is a beautiful bright blue creme. Application was really great and I had no issues at all. I think this is such a bright perfect shade for summer. This is two coats with no top coat. Fair warning though, this WILL stain your skin when you remove it. It didn’t stain my nails at all but my skin was blue when I removed it. There is a trick that will help. When you remove, take your cotton wool soaked in remover and leave it on your nail for a few seconds. Then wipe straight off towards your tip. This way there won’t be much touching your skin and you won’t need a lot of rubbing. If your skin is stained though it was really easy to remove by washing my hands with warm water and giving it a tiny scrub with a nail brush. Really stubborn stains you can use a bit of toothpaste (bonus if it is a whitening toothpaste). I would still use this polish though 😉
Essence – The Boy Next Door
This colour isn’t new. It seems to be a very popular shade and it’s no surprise why. Gorgeous deep blue polish with perfect application. Surprisingly, no staining at all! This is 2 coats with no top coat.
Essence – I love Bad Boys
I Love bad Boys is a lighter blue shade packed with a turqoise-ish shimmer. You can probably see the shimmer better in the bottle in this photo but it does look gorgeous on the nail. I had no issues with application. This is 2 coats with no top coat. It dried a bit gritty so if you want a smooth finish you definitely need top coat (in my opinion you ALWAYS need top coat).
L.A. Girl – Flash Freeze
This polish had me a bit perplexed. I loved the application, I loved the finish. I wasn’t sure about the colour. I can’t put my finger on it 100%. It could be because the colour isn’t as vibrant and bright as some of the others. It could be because it is a little sheer. I don’t know. I loved the experience of this polish enough to keep it in my collection and the colour is pretty. I must say L.A Girl polishes keep surprising me. I am really enjoying them. This is 3 coats with no top coat.
Sinful Colors – See you Soon
This might be a traditional ‘blue’ polish but I have included it here because it is so packed with the blue shimmer / flecks. This is more of a blackened base packed with blue (and maybe some green) shimmer. It almost has a demin look to it and it really is very pretty. This is 2 coats with no top coat.
Sinful Colors – Why not
The gorgeous Sinful Colors formula combined with a gorgeous shade means you can’t go wrong. Why Not is very close in shade to Essence – Let’s Get Lost but not quite identical. Perfect application and finish. This is 2 coats with no top. I have to mention, I also have ‘Fly Away’ by Sinful Colors and I would say these two are almost identical. If you have the one you don’t need the other. I could not see a difference between these two when I put them next to each other so it didn’t make sense to show you both. If you like this shade then look out for EITHER Why Not OR Fly Away. You don’t need both.
Tip Top – Astronaut
Once again, you don’t need me to tell you this is gorgeous! Astronaut is a beautiful blue almost foil like polish. This is 2 coats with no top coat. Perfect application, smooth and shiny. This might just be what love looks like.
Tip Top – Beach Babe
Beach Babe is a gorgeous light blue creme. Flawless application and a gorgeous shiny finish. This is 2 coats with no top coat. This is another one of my favourites.
Tip Top – Blue my Whistle
This is a light blue – almost turqoise – shade of blue with a very very subtle shimmer. It was a little streaky on the first coat but evened out beautifully on the second coat. Very shiny finish as you can expect with Tip Top polishes. This is 2 coats with no top coat.
Tip Top – Jazz Berryblue
Beautiful bright blue. Another gorgeous shade. The only thing you can’t really tell from the photo is that it has some shimmer in it as well. This is really gorgeous and the only down side to this polish is that it also stains the skin. Not too much but be careful when removing this polish. This is 2 coats with no top coat.
Tip Tip – In the Navy
Is this not gorgeous? This is *the* most beautiful colour. I actually have the matte top coat on my ring and middle finger. Application was perfect! This could almost be a one coater. I love this colour. Love love love. This is 2 coats with no top coat other than the matte top coat on the two fingers.
Catrice – It’s All I Can Blue
Another favourite. I simply adore this shade. This was a dream to apply and a gorgeous shiny finish. Catrice is a really great polish and so great to work with. This is 2 flawless coats with no top coat. I am so in love with this polish.
Phew, that is a lot of blue right?
You can find Essence polish at Clicks and Dischem for R19.95. Catrice is also available at Clicks or Dischem for R34.95. The Tip Top Nail Chic range is available at Clicks stores for R39.99 and the Tip Top Nail Addict line is available at Foschini also for R39.99. Sinful Colors is available at Clicks for R27.99 although the See You Soon shade is one I got at Ackermans for R19.95 (remember they don’t have the names on but is easy to find with google). L.A Girl is available from Dischem for R32.95.
I hope you enjoyed all the different blue shades. Which one is your favourite? It is really hard for me to choose my absolute favourite but top three would have to be: Tip Top – In the Navy, Catrice – It’s All I Can Blue and Essence – Absolutely Blue
Thanks for reading!

Tip top Astronaut and Sinful See you soon are my favourites. I have never looked for Tip Top @ Foschini stores but now I will! A tip I read the other day to prevent staining when removing dark colours is to paint cuticle oil around the nails before starting to remove the polish.

What a great tip! Thank you so much. I would never have thought of it. Definitely going to do that with the next ‘stainer’ I have on. Thank you so much!

Beach Babe, Astronaut and Absolutely Blue are my favourites. Blue my whistle looks like Tip Top Cha cha cha to me.

Blue my whistle is exactly the same shade as Cha Cha Cha except it has a very subtle shimmer where Cha Cha Cha is a creme. Good eye!! 😉
