Hey hey guys,
Have you had a good week so far? It feels like I blinked on Sunday and suddenly it is Wednesday. Talk about a whirlwind. On that note, let’s get straight to the action. There’s a lot to share today.
It’s that time of the year where Essence and the sister companies do range updates. It means we say good bye to a bunch of products but it also means we get a TON of new ones. One of my favourite things about Essence is that they have such a wide range of products and are always super on trend as well. This time around there are a ton of new goodies and I had to split it into more than one post. There’s also a new trend edition to show you. Let me get straight to it with the Holo Rainbow range.
Before I show you, a few things about all the ones I have. I expected these to be more like glitter toppers with SOME holo. These are all amazingly opaque and packed with holo goodness. I only have 4 of the 5 and I am limiting the photo’s to swatches and a macro shot. On Instagram I will share bottle shots and a blurred shot to show the holo as well throughout the day. If you want to see those, keep an eye there. Ok, let’s go.
The Holo Rainbow range
Essence – Hello holo
This is 2 coats with topcoat. To me, this is a silver but I think some might think it leans to a lilac. This applied so easily and the 2 coats were easy and effortless. You can definitely see the holo in all my lightbox photos which shows how shiny this is. This is s scattered holo as it is holo and silver glitter in a clear base. It’s beautiful and I love it. It does dry with some grit but 2 coats of topcoat leaves it smooth and even. This does not affect the sparkle though. Let me give you a closer look
Essence – Holo love
This is 2 coats with topcoat. This is a dusty pink scattered holo. It’s pink and silver holo glitter in a pinkish jelly base and as above applies beautifully and even looks amazing in one coat.
Essence – Holo maniac
This is 2 coats with topcoat. This is a green scattered holo. This is a green jelly base with green and silver holo glitter. This is one of the more opaque ones and also applies sooooo beautifully. I really like this shade of green and this somehow reminds me of the ocean.
Essence – Holo rocks
This is 2 coats with topcoat. This is a blue scattered holo. It is a royal blue jelly base with blue and silver holo glitter. As all the rest, it applies beautifully and is also more opaque than the lighter two. I adore this one. I have quite a few blue holos but none quite like this one. I actually have this on my toes at the moment and I love it!
The Brushed Metals range.
I don’t have all of them to show you but I do have a few notes about the ones I am showing you. They all dry with a satin matte type finish. All my swatches are without topcoat except for the ring finger that is topcoated (I will mention it per polish as well). These are also the ones I used for Tuesday Stamping yesterday.
Essence – Can’t stop the feeling
This is 2 coats without topcoat (ring finger has topcoat). This is a nude / champagne colour with a silver shimmer. It definitely works so well with the ‘brushed metal’ finish. I love the colour but the topcoat on the ring didn’t really show much of a difference in the colour, it just made it smoother. I thought this would be a favourite because I liked it so much. It isn’t my favourite but it still remains really pretty. I think this paired with a chunky glitter will look stunning.
Essence – It’s my party
This is ONE coat with no topcoat (ring finger has topcoat). I left this at one coat to show you the difference in opacity compared to Can’t stop the feeling. Even though 2 coats were more than enough there, this one was amazing in one coat. This is a trend for the rest of the polishes I am showing you but I left this one at one to really show you the opacity. This is a bright pink with pink shimmer. This shimmer looks great in the ‘brushed metal’ / satin finish and I love it like that. Add the topcoat though and the polish really transforms into a shiny shimmery beauty. The polish also has a slightly different tone of pink to it with the topcoat but it still looks like the same polish. I love the option to do it both ways. Beautiful formula and opacity. Beautiful colour. What more could you ask for?
Essence – I’m cool with it
This is 2 coats with no topcoat (ring finger has topcoat). Yesterday when I did the stamping with this one I called it more blue but here you can see it has more of green shift than the blue (even though the blue is there). I really like this dark, almost teal shade with the blue and green shimmer. I love the finish but when you topcoat it like it on my ring finger, the shimmer comes alive. I also think it makes the polish maybe a shade darker but the shimmer is lighter so it really contrasts and shows up well. It’s absolutely beautiful. This one is also a one coater but I always recommend 2 coats for longer lasting polish anyway. Beautiful formula too.
Essence – Steel the show
This is 2 coats with no topcoat (ring finger has topcoat). This is a silver with the satin / ‘brushed metal’ finish and I really like it. I for one have a ton of silver polishes and this is probably more unique than most. It has a chrome feel to it but is definitely more polish with a shimmer and I love it in the original finish. My only real gripe is that it tends to be a bit brush stroky but to be honest it is minimal. On my ring finger with the topcoat it seems to be more shiny and the shimmer shows more but doesn’t really change the colour much. This is also a one coater and after the fact I wondered how this would be in a super thin coat over a colour. Has anyone tried it? Let me know, I’d love to find out how it works.
Essence – There is no place like chrome
This is 2 coats with no topcoat (ring has topcoat). This is a dark grey / charcoal with silver shimmer. This reminds me a bit of China Glaze – Stone cold and I am pretty sure there is an OPI similar as well. I really love the satin matte finish and this makes me want to go to town with bright colours over it. On my ring finger you can see the topcoat really makes the shimmer pop and it is also the most noticeable change in colour with the topcoat as well. The polish definitely looks darker. I love both ways and I can’t wait to use this more. This is also a one coater with a beautiful formula. My only real gripe with this one is the name. The chrome in the name is very deceiving as there is nothing chrome about this polish. If they had to use this name I think it suited the silver much more.
What do you think? Have you tried any of these? Which is your favourite? I still have a few new things to show you and I will try to get it done as soon as possible. Who needs sleep right? :P. Let me know if you have a preference or if you’ve grabbed any of these so far. When I was there they were still unpacking and I literally took them as they put them on the shelf. This is why I am missing a few here and there. Have a great day and I might see you here tomorrow.
Thanks for reading,
Briget
