Hey guys,
Happy last day of February! I swear we had christmas like a week ago right? I hope March is a good one for all of us and I am especially looking forward to the cooler weather. I am also pooped today. We are finally back into a regular schedule at gym and my body is feeling it. My poor arms 😛 How has your week been so far?
I have another item from Born Pretty Store to show you today. As you know, they have a great supply of nail art goodies and today I am showing you another pigment powder. I have the holographic chameleon unicorn mermaid mirror chrome pigment in colour variance #3 so let me show you and then discuss what I thought.
I started with 2 coat of Sinful Colors – Black on black and left that to dry completely. I then added the pigment powder to each nail and then used gel topcoat over that. I am not sure why I expected the powder to be more red but it is a beautiful rusty red colour that is very very holo. You know that holo shows up less potent in my light box and these photo really how of the holo. The powder applied easily and evenly. I applied it over black for this post because it really hows off the colour, coverage and holo-ness. I do have some issues though…
My issue is not about the pigment powder. It’s really great and I can highly recommend it. My problem is that Born Pretty Store has soooo many pigment powders that look similar. They are described as ‘chrome’, ‘chameleon’, holo’ powder. I have NO idea how they are different just by looking at them. Of course, I have a few of them and I am going to try and show you how and if they are different. I did show you some flakies the other day that can also be used as pigment powder. But let’s talk about this one. This powder is described as “Holographic chameleon unicorn mermaid mirror chrome pigment”. That is a LOT of words that all mean something different to describe this powder. Starting at the beginning, is it holo? check. Is it chameleon? Hmm possibly but not very visible with all that holo. Is it chrome? Yes I would say so. Is it mirror? No. Now the Unicorn / mermaid is left. This is where I think a difference might come in. This powder shows up in this colour on black but if you do it on white it has a more green tint and isn’t colour changing. If you think of mermaid powder or unicorn pee or unicorn powder. It’s more colour altering right? I tested this on a small patch of white and it had a slight green tint with the holo shimmer. So I think they are different to say metallic powder where the colour always changes to a specific colour but with the tint of whatever colour is underneath (think the popular silver mirror chrome powder) Anyway, I wish they would specify how or if they are different. I will try and compare any of the ones I have. I do love the variety and quality of all their powders so far thought.
A a comparison to the flakies I showed here. When the flakies are used as a solid powder it is also holo like this one (although this one is much more holo) but I feel the flakies are much more chameleon with a definite and obvious colour shift. Of course, I had to do some nail art with this gorgeous powder and I really just wanted to stamp on it. Let me show you what I did.
On my pinky and index I just had black using 2 coats of Sinful Colors – Black on black. I stamped on my ring and middle finger using Lina – Totally negative 01 and Mundo de Una – Black. I topcoated everything again and that was that.
Have you tried any of these powders? Do you prefer the holo chameleon or just the chrome chameleon powders. I must say I am blown away by HOW holo this powder was that even my lightbox had no problem picking it up. It also comes in a variety of beautiful shades. I can’t wait to see what comes out of the next little tub I open. What do you think? If you want to grab this powder – or anything else – don’t forget to use my discount code below to get 10% off.

I really like their powders, especially considering the price point. This one is super holo but the colour pay off isn’t a great on this one. It’s still pretty though.

I wasn’t that enthusiastic when I saw the full manicure but your nail art is gorgeous!!!
*fights the urge to start ordering powders right now*

I must admit, the colour pay off on this one wan’t a great but the holo is beautiful. I am very impressed with these powders for the price though.
