Hey guys,
Did you have a good weekend? It has been cool and rainy here which is heavenly. I seem to have come down with a bug so I am man down for now. Yay me!
Time for another week of #52weeknailchallenge hosted by Polish Portfolio. As always, you can follow this # to see what other people are creating and you can find the list of prompts for this year below.
Before I get to the prompt for this week I wanted to share the prompts for next year. We only have 2 weeks left of this year and now you can start planning for next year too if you want.
You’ll see that the poster this year includes dates. The date is the date the week starts on (starting on Sunday) and you can post your creation any time during that week. You will also notice the seasonal prompts are doubled up (autumn / spring and spring / autumn) so that it suits both hemispheres. Of course, you can interpret these prompts in ANY way you want. I can’t wait to see who joins and what you create.
Ok, on to this year. The prompt this week is negative space and I am excited. I did have an idea saved for this prompt. When I saw this post by @nail_muse I just knew I wanted to keep it for this prompt. I obviously didn’t use any of the same products she did but I was inspired by the idea. Let me show you what I did,
First of all, I started with a whitening base coat. This is a bit milky so it helps my stained nails look a bit better when it is exposed in negative space. I started with tape half way across my middle and ring finger and then applied 2 coats of China Glaze – Mustard the courage to the exposed tips and on my index nail. I used 2 coats of China Glaze – Swing baby on my pinky. While that was drying I went to work with the stamping. I stamped using BPL-054 and Mundo de Unas – Black and used a thin nail art brush and China Glaze – Swing baby to fill in pieces of the image. I then applied it over my middle and ring finger, topcoat and that was that.
I was worried I wouldn’t like it as much as the original because I really love the blue with the gold. Turns out I really like it anyway. I am not sure if I used the best colours together but I think it works. What do you think?
Thanks for reading,
Donna
I love this look! The yellow & black work great together. Using a whitening base was GENIUS! What did you use? I often avoid nude-based manis because my nails are discolored.
Thanks for sharing!

Ah thank you so much Donna! I used the LA Girl whitener & smoother base coat here but I also have an essence one that is milky in colour and they both seem to do the trick to take the edge off the staining. I also try and keep the negative space to the cuticle areas cause the staining is worse towards my tips. Hope that helps and thanks again for the kind compliments xx
