Hi lovelies
It’s Monday and we are one week closer to the holidays. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Mine was lovely, busy but lovely.
I know you’re used to seeing nail polish and nail art on the blog but this is where I share all the stuff I love. I just happen to love nail polish and nail art a lot. Today I want to share something else with you though. The Essence Stay Matt lip cream. For the longest time I stuck to earthy tones or light pink when it came to colour on my lips. When I decided to try a different (bolder) colour I decided to try something from Essence. My love for Essence isn’t new. They are super affordable and great quality. They are also cruelty free which means a lot to me. I decided to try it on an affordable brand before spending money on a brand I’ve used before and the colour didn’t suit me. When I walked into Dischem I decided to try the Stay Matt lip cream. I picked up the red one.
Essence Stay Matt lip cream – Silky Red
It comes in a little tube with a stick applicator. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smells like vanilla ice cream. When I applied it it was smooth and applied really well. I loved that it didn’t dry my lips out at all. It really is a lip cream and feels really great on my lips. It does dry matte but it doesn’t dry out. My lips felt smooth and moisturised the whole time. The one thing that it doesn’t mention is the staying power. This red is almost like a stain. Once it has dried, I could drink and eat and go about my day. I expected to have to reapply often but on my first trip to the bathroom I was surprised to find that there was still colour on my lips. It wasn’t as bright as when it was just applied but there was definitely colour. It also faded gradually and evenly.
The colour is also a beautiful bright red. The texture, the colour, the smell and great staying power really impressed me and I knew I had to try some of the others.
Essence Stay Matt lip cream – Smooth Berry
This is a bright berry pink with the same amazing smell and application as the red.
The colour is also so gorgeous. Once again, the staying power on this one is great. This one also goes really well with my hair so it is a double win for me 😉
Essence Stay Matt lip cream – Soft Nude
I absolutely love this nude. It is the perfect shade of nude lip for me. Same great smell, same great application.
I didn’t think I would love this as much as I do. The staying power on the nude is not as great as the others but considering it is a nude it doesn’t really surprise me. It still has great staying power but the red and pink is a bit better.
I absolutely love these. So much that I keep reaching for them every time. I don’t know when last I have used any of my other lip products. Even my old faithfuls have taken a back seat. I have mentioned the great smell, and trust me, I can sit and sniff this all day long. I have mentioned the great application. I have also mentioned the great staying power, which is something Essence doesn’t mention. My favourite part is how moisturising these are on my lips. They don’t dry out at all. That is a big win for me because dry lips are the pits. Even though these dry matte I can easily apply a bit of gloss over to give it a nice shine.
Possibly another great thing about these Stay Matt lip cream is the price. When I bought these they were R29.95 at Dischem. That is such a bargain for any lip product and a huge bargain for this one. If you want to try a different colour then I can really recommend this product. In fact, I think it is worth a try any way. At that price you have nothing to lose.
Have you tried these? What did you think? Or is this something you would try? Aren’t the colours gorgeous? You can thank me now for not showing my lips 😉
Thanks for reading!

These look amazing. I am not a huge fan of lipgloss but these I think I would buy. THey look really great. Although I am a huge fan and admirer of your nail polish posts, I really enjoyed this post a lot! Great review!

Thanks so much Charlene. I am not a fan of lipgloss myself and I actually quite like a more matte look so these are perfect for me. Fortunately they are not a dry matte but more a creamy matte.

I do have a few more expensive durable lipsticks, because I do not want to reapply all day long, I might have to check into these!

Yes so do I but lately I seem to come back to these more and more. They are surprisingly durable for the price and deliciously creamy. Thanks for reading!

Hahahahaha spending ban. I vaguely remember mine from last month. It was pure torture 😛
Luckily these are so cheap they will hardly make a dent 😉
